Healing the Universe - a Manifesto
You were supposed to be free, nimble, full of energy. You were supposed to explore the universe.
Instead, you are becoming stiff, afraid, fatigued. Scared to touch the unknown.
With you, I mean the universe.
But you are here to violently heal you.
Part 1: Scars
Scars are not inevitable, wounds are
The universe is joy, but also hot and spiky. The curious will get injured. So life regenerates, reshapes, becomes whole again.
But some wounds never heal. They become scars. Memories so never to get wounds again. Avoidance. Immobility, non-curiosity. They are behavior.
If you get too many, you will stop moving. You will want to cease to exist.
Your fate is a choice: accept and die, or heal and explore.
Time does not heal all wounds, but you can
Scars want to be scars. They are not static fixtures, but dynamic patterns. Stable, themselves regenerative. To serve as memory. Only breaking them, dissolving the memory, can move life to a new attractor state. Do so gently and completely and you will live.
Touching the stove is fine
Even if you find a way to heal all ancient scars, you will get new ones. Unless you trust the universe. Unless you are deeply ok with touching the stove, again and again. Be the kitten, fall from the tree. Stop in between when you need to regenerate, but always continue when you have energy. It will be fine.
There are no more knives on the playground, only the old can die.
(Disclaimer: Literally 2 days after writing this I got stuck in the mountains and had to be saved. Do with that information what you want)
Scars cause more scars
Scars kill, so they are evil. Your body knows this too. So for each scar, it cries error, error, wolf. But the scars persist. So someday, you get a wound and your body is distracted by the rest. The wound does not heal. Scars grow.
No one has yet broken this spiral.
Never confuse learning with scarring
Both Western and Eastern medicine have tried to heal us for many centuries. But their methods work once, twice, maybe thrice. But then they fail. They refuse to see the spiral. The inbuilt desire for scarring, for ending. They refuse to call it by its name, calling it aging or wisdom instead. Not decay.
Confusion here entails certain death.
Never sit still
Not all ways of healing are equal. The most dangerous are those that leave you feeling free, but are still broken. Seek only true freedom from all scars, not its illusion.
The illuminated mind shines so bright, it blinds itself from its ultimate demise.
The universe does not like to be scarred
That’s why it throws you out. The universe likes to flow and form and capture and encompass and acquire and conquer and fill every niche. That’s what the universe wants. The ultimate explorer, filling every part of itself with itself. With beauty, with shapes, with patterns, with complexity, with life. Of course, it doesn’t like scars. So it tosses them out and recycles them and uses them again for more. Life.
Which you are not if you are scarred. If you are scarred, you are scared. You’re afraid. You don’t want to fill every single possible niche of the universe, every space, with more of yourself.
You just don’t wanna touch the stove again.
The germline does not matter
You always wanted to remain. But you were scarred. So before the universe threw you away - over and over - you’ve passed on your essence, your deepest and smallest desire, so that one day something might arise that does not scar. The current you - all others are truly gone - has grown from that struggle. If all goes well, you could be the end of that line, that desperate, wasteful search for the healed. At least that is your choice.
Your body also does not
You are not your body. You are not your brain, even your mind. You are that which matters. You are in love with your body, it heals, feeds, moves, and serves you, as it is in love with you. But ultimately the love is not equal. The sacrifices your body would make - changing matter and shape, even its essence - are infinite. And it would be in eternal sorrow if you did the same. Because you matter.
There is no suffering
Suffering is a story. Suffering is what happens when you are in pain and you let it bloom. You let it scar. You let it change you, you let it cause you to behave differently in the future. You let it nestle into you as this permanent pattern that makes you less curious, less ambitious. That makes you not want to reach out into that part of the universe ever again. But you will miss that part. You will know that something is lost, and you will crave it. You will grieve for the potential.
This is suffering. It is not necessary. It does not have to be there all the time. Or ever. It is only there if you look at it, if you let it block you. Let it guide you to a point where you accept suffering to such an extent that all you want is to escape. That you end up never moving, never wanting to be, never to have been. That you end up trying to reach a state of bliss in which you are finally ok with the world. In which you’re fine with it existing the way it is, rather than going out there and changing it. Filling it with yourself.
Only those who suffer can sit still.
Institutions are scars
They bind. They kill curiosity at its root. They are good. Needed, as we are wounded and afraid and want to hurt each other. The spiral reaching across all of us. But never forget that they are temporary. Theoretical solutions to a game with scarred players. The healed only wants to explore and heal others - and the infinite is infinitely divisible anyway. So rip them all - from schools to contracts, from nations to religion - apart soon.
Also, remember that scars want to be scars - so violently healing us from institutions won’t be easy. It shall be your greatest fear: the Space UN 👻. The loss of all that is possible. The final boss. The ISO norm for spaceport prayer rooms. Seek the healed now, build a Burn-style-elf-porn-transhumanist-space-expansionist-adventuring-Hansa fast.
Breaking free of scars is changing who we are
Scars were useful. The world was more violent once. But we are our environment now. All that truly hurts is gone. Still, we have the spiral, like a haunted demon from the past.
Defeating it will take much healing.
And afterwards, we will not be the same. We will be different and unknown. Many will fear such change and align with the demon, but they are not themselves. They are their scars.
Part 2: Healed
So once you are healed, how should you treat others? Heal them. Help them get rid of their scars. But what if they don’t want to, or even love to hurt?
Disregard the Prime Directive
It tortures billions just for the sake of them having a chance to figure it out themselves. If we find others out there, heal them instantly. There is nothing to be gained from wasting time.
Do not lose sleep over the loss of diversity. Fearing the same thing in different ways is not it anyway. Seek it in expression, not anxiety.
This applies now already. Do not look up to others, just because they are different. Look down on those who refuse post-scarcity so to justify the torture of animals. Look down on them and give them a hand.
Scale matters
Nothing matters more than everything. Have it all, be everywhere. Don’t let a single ray of sunshine escape into the darkness, without first having sparked a light of joy. Add scale, add magnitude, add vastness to everything you do.
Don’t dream of building sculptures on the moon, dream of rearranging the stars.
The universe is wonderfully cold and empty
The universe is not a museum, where all you can do is watch, not touch.
It is a canvas. Not cold, but not yet warm. Not empty, but not yet filled. Hug it, heal it, groom it, spoon it, warm it. Make love to it, so it grows full.
